So your mom just bought you a shiny new iPod 5th Generation for your 18th birthday. You love the iPod she bought you last year. You even listened to every episode of Anime Pulse on it. Twice. Some episodes three times. But the new iPod can do video. And the screen is HUGE!
This opens up a whole new world to you. Anime Everywhere™. The problem is you don’t know how to get anime on your new iPod. You know it’s possible, but every time you try to insert a DVD into the damn thing, it just doesn’t work out the way you want it to.
But don’t worry. If you follow my four step tutorial, you’ll be able to put so much anime on that iPod that you’re going to need another one.
Let’s begin.
1. Get Anime
I know you’re 18, but you still live at home, so don’t tell your mom about this. You’re going to have to download anime off a shady website. Yeah. I know. You have an impressive DVD collection, but turning those DVDs into babies that your iPod can reverse-give-birth-to is a whole can of worms that I just don’t have time to get into.
Trust me. Install a popup blocker. Renew your McAfee Anti-Virus subscription. You’ll be fine. And you wanna find English dubs. I know. They aren’t as good. But trust me. The screen on that fancy new device of yours is the future, but subtitles are kind of pain to read on it.
2. Convert Anime
Now that you’ve got the files, we need to convert them to a format that iPod can read. The iPod 5th Generation is a real dick about what videos it will playback. Thankfully, there are programs like Videora iPod Converter that know the exact specifications for the conversion.
At least, I assume it does. The program didn’t load when I tried to use it. There’s also a program called videoConvert for iPod, which is a steal at $3.99 on the App Store. Or it would be if any of the files it converted worked.
What does work is Online-Convert.com.
It’s simple. You choose your file and you click “convert file.” If your file has more than one audio track–tough shit. You don’t get to pick which one they use. I told you find English dubs in the previous step. Now you might have to learn Japanese because you wouldn’t listen.
After the file finishes converting, it will either download automatically or give you the option to download it yourself.
3. Put Anime on iPod
I hope you took notes on where you downloaded that file because you’re not done with it.
Open up iTunes and plug your iPod into your computer using the ridiculous 30-pin connector it comes with. Once iTunes recognizes that your iPod, drag your file into iTunes and drop it onto your iPod. The software should do the rest of the work.
4. Watch Anime
Considering you made it this far in the tutorial, I shouldn’t have to help you with this step. But if you truly don’t know how to watch anime, I’ll refer you to our tutorial, How to Watch Anime.
