When KissAnime and KissManga shut down in August, countless fans and industry professionals in the US cheered. Why put your computer at risk of being infected by spyware to watch poorly encoded anime surrounded by ads for porn? It seems unnecessary when there are so many legal streaming options. Many of which have a free version.
What these people often forget is that anime isn’t always as accessible in other countries. According to Anime News Network, anime fans in India only have access to 16% of Crunchyroll’s catalog. It’s no wonder sites like KissAnime are so popular in their country.
Startup company Animei TV hopes to solve this problem. In a recent tweet they stated:
“Now you don’t have to visit a pirated website anymore to watch ANIME. We present to you the Animei TV-Anime Streaming Platform for all Anime lovers in INDIA.”
Animei TV claims to be India’s first legal anime streaming platform. A full list of anime has not been made available yet, but their social media contains images from the following titles:
- Attack on Titan
- Black Clover
- Death Note
- Demon Slayer
- Dr. Stone
- Dragon Ball
- Fairy Tail
- My Hero Academia
- One Piece
- Tokyo Ghoul
The service is set to launch in January 2021 and offers discounts for the first 5000 subscribers.
