The first trailer for the Crunchyroll Original EX-ARM was released on Friday to little fanfare. Amateur visuals and the director’s lack of experience were among the biggest concerns from fans.
The promo, which proudly “declar[es] war against all SF series around the world,” has received more than 11,000 dislikes — just under ten times the number of likes.
The director, Yoshikatsu Kimura, apparently worked on the live-action 20th Century Boys, but his role in the film is unclear. When he spoke at Crunchyroll Expo, he talked about how he hired a team of people that work in live-action instead of anime. Judging by the response the trailer is getting, this approach did not pay off.
As someone that has always enjoyed watching terrible media, I’m looking forward to this like nobodies business. When I first saw the trailer, I didn’t think much of it. Now I’ve watched a dozen times, and I understand its true power. Some executive producer with more money than I’ll ever see in my life watched this and said, “This is great. Post it now,” and that fills me with joy.
The Japanese pop-punk track from Airflip is also pretty sick.
